Blinder was formed by the end of 1998 from the ashes of the renowned Santa Clara-based Death metallers Medium. They are nowadays one of the most prominent Cuban metal acts, counting with a loyal fanbase that spreads all over their own country and beyond. The quality of their output, their great live performances, their constant touring and their participation in prestigious local festivals (such as Ciudad Metal and Brutalfest), have elevated Blinder to iconic status nationwide. Their style combines deep growls and intense guitar riffs with melodies that give a touch of class to the aggressiveness of their music.
Blinder's new album "Hegemonic Cult" marks a milestone in the history of the Cuban metal scene. It was mastered by legendary King Diamond axe-man Andy LaRocque and contains eight tracks of pure metal mayhem, including a sick cover of a Slayer song as a bonus. The title track features in addition a guest appearance by master shredder Steve Smyth (Testament, Nevermore, Forbidden, One Machine).

Nocturnal Egg (Jordan)

Californian quartet defining themselves as Sci-Fi black metal, maybe due to cosmic and interstellar topics, sounding like blackened death metal too ("The Maw"). It's a well-balanced melodic black metal album, with some fast-paced tracks and nice rhythmic transitions reminding me of Swiss band Celtic Frost (e.g. Terminal Odyssey). In other words not overly dominated by drum speed and also not sounding as extreme or as raw as some BM can be. sachavonkarl74

I think I discovered this one (well, Saor in general) in 2022. In addition to an embalming soundtrack go-to, it's definitely a cold-weather favorite. skyturtles
