Onirophagus is a Spanish Doom / Death Metal band born under the musical influence of My Dying Bride, Paradise Lost, Hypocrisy, Ophis, Asphyx, Immolation, Incantation, Autopsy and Evoken amongst others. The band was created in September 2011 in order to compose music in the style that was created by the great Extreme Metal bands of early 90's.
The current band line-up is Moregod (Guitar), Uretra (Drums), Paingrinder (Voices), Ghorth (Guitar) and Khrorum (Bass). Their music is built on the blending of slow-paced Doom riffs and furious Death Metal bursts in the sphere of Morbid Angel. Anguished darkness, maximum sickness and harmonious leanings intertwine in the same tune.
Their first work, “Defiler Of Hope”, is a 34 minutes long EP originally self-released in early 2012, formed by five long and heavy tracks and one piano outro. One thing that’s particularly noticeable about the recording, is the organic sound that the producer, Javi Félez (Moontower Studios), has achieved on the final mix, oozing echoes of Hypocrisy and the works of Ophis. Every song in “Defiler Of Hope” is a new compositional challenge. When it comes to the vocals, they bring power and sickness on a rich textured complexity of tones, doubled in climatic fragments.
“Defiler Of Hope” features collaborations of Fiar (Foscor), Xavi (Decapitated Christ) and Von Päx (Barbarian Swords) on vocals and guest guitars by Javi (Graveyard). The cover art and whole layout was done by illustrator César Valladares, a dark and enigmatic layout, perfectly fitting with the band and their tracks.
In Spring 2012, Onirophagus signed a deal with Xtreem Music and thus the band started to write new material for their début album "Prehuman" which came out in summer 2013.
